A sliding gate that lifts, jumps, or derails from its track has usually worn a roller, bent the rail, or collected debris in the channel. Running it in that state bends the track further and can wreck the rollers, so it is best to stop using it until it is looked at.
You can safely clear visible debris or ice from the track and check whether a guide bracket has come loose. Do not try to lever a heavy gate back onto its track by hand, they are heavy and can fall; that is a technician's job with the right support.
